ClearPMO vs Asana, monday.com, ClickUp, Trello, Jira and Smartsheet: a side-by-side comparison

An honest feature and price comparison of ClearPMO with Asana, monday.com, ClickUp, Trello, Jira and Smartsheet, checked against each vendor's own pages, including where the other tools are stronger.

Key takeaway

ClearPMO is built for project and program managers who need owners, risks, dependencies, compliance documents and spend in one place, priced per project. The others are broader work management tools priced per user, and several are stronger on time tracking and integrations.

Comparison pages written by vendors are usually not worth reading, because every table ends with a column of green ticks for the author. We have tried to write the one we would want to read: every fact about another tool was checked on that vendor's own pricing page or help centre, the sources are listed at the end, and we say where the other tools are the better choice.

The short version

  • Choose ClearPMO if you run projects or programs with deadlines, owners, risks and dependencies, want AI to draft plans and chase follow-ups, and want pricing per project instead of per person.
  • Choose Asana or monday.com if you want a broad work management platform for many teams and workflows, with many integrations.
  • Choose ClickUp if you want one highly configurable workspace for tasks, docs and time tracking at a low per-user price.
  • Choose Trello for simple visual boards with a small team.
  • Choose Jira if your work is mainly software development in sprints.
  • Choose Smartsheet if your team thinks in spreadsheets and needs resource management at scale.

Checked on each vendor's pricing page and help centre on 30 September 2026. "No native feature found" means we could not find it on the vendor's own pages, not that no workaround or app exists. "Template" means the vendor offers a ready-made layout built on its standard fields rather than a dedicated feature.

Price comparison

Per-user and per-project prices are hard to compare directly. As a rough guide, a team of 10 on a per-user plan pays ten times the per-user price every month, whether or not everybody is active. In ClearPMO the same team pays nothing on Base, CHF 69 per month for each project upgraded to Premium, and CHF 149 per month for each program, however many people are on it.

Where ClearPMO is stronger

  • Project management structure is built in on the free plan: scope and out of scope, milestones, a real risk register, dependencies, task blockers and an audit trail, not templates you assemble yourself.
  • AI that works for the PM: drafts the plan from a description or a document, sends daily follow-ups to each owner, suggests blockers on large plans, and answers questions through Robin from your project data only.
  • Compliance Mgt: delivery documents tracked phase by phase from Planning to Hypercare, with owners, due dates and status.
  • Financials on programs: budget allocation, purchase orders, invoices, payment terms and paid status, with over-allocation blocked.
  • Pricing per project or program, so inviting more people does not cost more.

Where the others are stronger

The other tools have been on the market for many years and cover more ground. They offer large integration marketplaces, native mobile apps, time tracking, resource and capacity planning, and enterprise administration features such as SSO. ClearPMO does not have time tracking or an integrations marketplace today, and is focused on project and program delivery rather than every kind of team workflow.

If your main need is a company-wide work management platform, the broader tools are likely the better fit. If your main need is running projects well, ClearPMO is built for that.

How to decide

Take one real project and set it up in the two tools on your shortlist. Measure three things after two weeks: how long setup took, how many owners updated their own tasks without being asked, and how quickly you could answer "what is late and who owns it". The tool that wins those three is the one your team will keep using.
